Today in Maths, Miss Fisi’ahi got each Maths group to create a DLO about what we are learning about at the moment. My Maths group was learning how to name place and total values up to Millions and two decimal places and created a DLO explaining how to so that it can teach others who don’t know how to do it. This was a collaborative task and that was my favourite part about it because we could get more information in the DLO.
Why Maungarei sleeps(a Pourquoi story)
Today in LS2 we learnt about pourquoi storys and what the purpose a Pourquoi story serves. We were given the topic of “Why Maungarei sleeps” and create a Pourquoi story explaining why by using a type of story that is also known as myths or legends which is what a Pourquoi story is. We filled out framework to help us write our Pourquoi storys and then put it all together to get the finished product. This is my story below.
Many generations ago when dinosaurs left footprints on the earth, there lived joyful and gorgeous mountain warriors who kept the land safe from bad spirits like Whiro-te-tipua the god of evil, darkness and death. Until this one maunga, named Maungarei, known amongst the other maunga as Maungarei the mighty mountain warrior, let her own anger and rage take over her emotions. She let out an almighty roar every time she fought with the other maunga. This made them not only fear her but also want to stay away from her.
It was another day, after Maungarei finished her little angry fit she realised that she had become lonely.
“Guys? Where are you all going?”she asked, confused.
“You’re really scary Maungarei so we don’t want to be with you anymore.”admitted the bravest of the other maunga.
“Wait! Don’t leave me alone! I don’t like being by myself. I thought we were friends, I promise I won’t be mean anymore!”she exclaimed, afraid that they were leaving her.
“Sorry Maungarei, we just don’t like you anymore. Haere ra!” a maunga waved her on as they all began to leave. Each one ignoring her pleas and never looking back.
Maungarei watched all the other maunga of Tāmaki Makaurau drift into the distance. She was overcome with guilt and despair. Maungarei looked around hoping this was all a joke and they would come back to her, since her biggest fear was being by herself. A sense of hopelessness washed over her. She knew there was nothing she could do that could stop the distance getting wider. Defeated, she finally laid down and her volatile volcanic core soon subsided forcing her into the long rest we see her taking today.

I created this photo using the generative AI feature on Adobe express. I experimented with many prompts and chose this one because I think it suits my story the best and I also like it the most out of all of the other recommendations. I think this is a very cool feature to use on Adobe since it is very helpful for people who need some help with creating images or even templates!
Data Analysis – Why LS2 Doesn’t Come To School
A few days ago LS2 did a servey on why we don’t come to school sometimes and used the data we got from it to create a bar graph that shows all of the reasons and amount of students that chose the reason and created a DLO explaining it. I really liked this task because it was really cool and fun to learn about and create.
How a Volcano erupts
Today LS2 were given a challenge by Mrs Anderson to create a animation on Google slides that shows someone how a volcano erupts. We were also asked to get into groups of 4 or 5 if needed and collaborate to make the animation. It was really fun to create and something I found interesting was learning how to make the animation and making precise disicions to make it all come together.
What are Volcanos?
Today Mrs Anderson asked LS2 to get into groups of 3 and create a DLO explaining the four types of Volcanos(Cone,Dome,Shield and Caldera) and she told us a brief explanation of the four types. My group created this using our researching skills, we could find what each type was and how they were formed. Something I found interesting was learning about all types of volcanos and collaborating with other classmates.
Words from the ANZACS
On friday Mrs Andersons group was taught how to use Google vids and after learning how to create and use it we were asked to create a podcast/vid of our ANZAC diary entries and recorded ourselfs reading it out as if we were the soldier. We also got to search for an image that relates to the ANZAC war for our background and also used text templates to write our title in.We then uploaded it to drive which makes the vd into one whole video that could be put onto our blogs.
I found this task really creative to do because we could learn about how to use Google vids and also learn about the ANZAC war and how hard it was for the soldiers to survive.
LI:To retell an event in history through the fictional eyes of someone who was there.
Time Travelers Podcast ft.Samuel Marsden

Today in LS2 we did Literacy and Inquiry. Our task was to create a Podcast with Samuel Marsden who was a Missionary in the 1820’s. One of us was pretending to be Samuel Marsden and the others were asking questions about what he did. It was fun to do and it was also interesting because we also learnt new things during the podcast like how Samuel Marsden felt when he sailed down the Tamaki River.
Camp Food Budget
In our camp activity groups we were given a budget of $2,000 to feed 47 students
We chose a menu for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks for $1385.03
We used our smart searching skills to find the best price for the food we wanted.
The maths strategies we used were algorithm addition
How working in a group helped you understand how a budget works.
Something I enjoyed was using algorithm addition to get the final answer
Camp Cabin Maths
We used our basic facts knowledge to solve how the issue of how many students in one cabin. The strategies we used were Algorithm Addition Something we found interesting about working out the word problem was choosing what strategy to use.I learnt its is important to use my own strategy because we shouldn’t copy others and when we finish we can
The Kuaka
Last week our Task was to create a DLO on the Kuaka and my DLO shows the different places the Kuaka Migrate to.something I found interesting was it can travel 11,000 to 13,000 kilometers under a week.
LI: To create an infographic that tells others about the migration of the kuaka
