Maths DLO| Square and Square Roots

For Maths Group 3 has been learning how to do Squares and Square roots and created this DLO about it that explains to others on how to do it. We created this DLO to show others on how to do it. something I liked about this task was that this was hard to learn at first but when I got the hang of it, it turned out to be easy.

Abstract Nouns

Today in LS2 we learnt what Abstract nouns are and were taught how to make a poem about one of the many Abstract nouns. We learned what a Metaphor is so that we could make our poems more powerful or spiritualy connected to the reader. We got into groups to create two Abstract noun poems, one about the topic we have been recently learning about which is The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas and the other we could use our creativity. My group decided to use the Abstract noun, “Friendship” for our poem that is connected to The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas and “Hope” for our other poem. We used wordhippo to help us use more powerful words to make our poems be more stronger and meaningful. Something I liked about this task was being able to make connections in boy poems in the end.

Samoan Language Week

Last week was Samoan Language Week and to contribute we got into partners and created a Google vid to show Samoan students some phrases in English that we think would help them. Me and my partner worked together to create this Google vid and we used phrases that we thought Samoan students would need. Something I liked about this task was checking our translations were correct to be accurate.

Mood, Atmosphere and Characterisation

LI: To understand how characters, mood, and atmosphere help shape a story.

In reading, group 3 created a DLO about different types of characters and how mood and atmosphere are used in The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. We explained the difference between protagonists and antagonists, as well as round and flat characters. We also explored how mood and atmosphere affect the way readers feel during important parts of the story.

While working on this task, we used examples from the text to explain our ideas more clearly. It was interesting learning how different characters have different roles in a story and how the atmosphere can make scenes feel tense, emotional, or uncomfortable.

This activity helped me understand how authors use characters and setting to shape the mood of a story and create stronger emotions for the reader.

Kapa Haka|Teacher Only Day

Last Friday was supposed to be a day off for the students at Panmure Bridge School, but for the Kapa Haka group, the real work was just beginning. Teachers from all around our local area and some who had traveled from all around New Zealand were gathering, and our school was chosen to welcome them into our school. I woke up at 7:00 AM to get to the school at 8:00 AM which was the time we were all meant to be at school. It was cold but that was no excuse to not perform. I threw on my mufti clothes, laced up my shoes, and headed out the door, walking as fast as my legs could carry me. The streets were quiet, but my mind was racing with the lyrics and actions we had practiced so hard to perfect. When I arrived I quickly got into my Kapa Haka uniform and put on my black lipstick and piupiu. Then the girls who had done that then went nextdoor by the boys to get their Moko done by a teacher. After that we then had a quick practice and lined up to head on down to the stage to perform. Once we got into our lines we started off our performance strongly. I was scared but proud at the same time, when we finally got to the Haka which was my favourite part I could see the crowd with shocked/amazed faces and it made me happy on the inside. Then we finished off with a karakia and then welcomed all of the teachers and princples into the hall and the made our way back to the classes to get changed back into our mufti clothes and then headed back home. I really liked this day because it made me feel proud of my culture.

Building Hope

After reading the Diary of Anne Frank and The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas we talked about what people must have felt like having their whole world turned upside down. I couldn’t imagine what it felt like to go through such a horrible time. Yesterday we discussed how we could put their cloth of dreams back together again. We drew what we thought was right, we collaborated in two big groups and there was no rules since it was about using creative expressions. This Activity was inspired by the book Teaspoon of Light. I enjoyed this activity very much because we got to use our creativity.

Chapter 19 Mood-O-metre

For Literacy, Me and Vaingalo made this Mood-o-meter to track Bruno’s emotions in Chapter 19 of the book “The boy in the striped pajamas”.

We have created a DLO about The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, this DLO we made this mood o metre about Chapter 19-20, The Mood-o-metere is a chart where it shows how the mood of the story went, it was really fun but sad because of the ending. Something I enjoyed was learning how to create the Mood-o-metre, and also describing the mood.

The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas

We listened to the audiobook of The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas by John Boyne. After each chapter we explored the mood and atmosphere of that chapter.

Mood is the whole story explained using one word.

Atmosphere is the vibe and the overall feeling of the story.

We worked collaboratively to summarize each chapter in 10 sentences. This helped us practise simple, compound and complex sentences. Some days we used a Gem to prompt us and some days we didn’t but that didn’t stop us from doing good work.

Summer Learning Journey

For the Student led conferences, LS2 created a learning journey to show our parents our blogs and work easily. I linked my favourite blog for each subject and got decorate it as I please. I liked creating this because on the day of student led conferences it really helped to go from blog to blog and made the session quicker.

Contrast

LI: To use AI to create an image that shows the contrast between events or characters.

Today for reading we have used Nano banana to create an image that shows the contrast of Shmuel and Bruno from the story we have been listening to which is “The boy in the striped pajamas.” Contrast is something that shows the differences between two events or characters which in our case, Shmuel and Bruno and shows how they are mostly opposite of eachother.
