Samoan Language Week

Last week was Samoan Language Week and to contribute we got into partners and created a Google vid to show Samoan students some phrases in English that we think would help them. Me and my partner worked together to create this Google vid and we used phrases that we thought Samoan students would need. Something I liked about this task was checking our translations were correct to be accurate.

Moko-Ika-Hiku-Waru

On Wednesday, PBS had a walk around the Panmure Basin and LS2 learned about a Maori Legend which was about the Taniwha named “Moko-Ika-Hiku-Waru” and when we got back to school we were tasked with a digital art project which was to make a image on Google slides on what we think the Taniwha would look like using the information we learned about it on the walk and we did this task in pairs. My partner and I created this, we thought the Taniwha would be blue because it lived in water and we thought it would fit it and we both thought the Taniwha would look like the carvins and we also found out that the Taniwha had eight tails and fed on eels and other kaimoana.
Something we enjoyed about this task was being able to use our creativity to create this drawing.

Pacific Northwest Tree Octopus

This task, our objective was to research the Pacific Northwest Tree Octopus. Throughout the process, we investigated intriguing questions like, “What habitat do they live in?” and uncovered some fascinating details about this unique creature. But the strange thing was that we were only allowed to gather our information using this one site which was odd but at the start most of the class thought it could be for other reasons. That was until the site we were finding our research on, we were all gathered to the mat because we were all finished and that was when Mrs Anderson told us in the end that the tree octopus is actually just made up. It turns out the creature is a famous internet hoax created in 1998 by a comedy writer named Lyle Zapato.

Art | Building our Class Culture

For Inquiry and Art LS2 was split into 7 groups and took on the challenge to recreate a specific leader such as, Malala Yousafai, Jonah Lomu, Kate Shepard and many others in an art piece. The group that I was in chose to recreate Malala Yousafai. Malala Yousafai is a great leader and one of her famous quotes are “One child, one teacher, one book, and one pen can change the world.” What I liked the most about this Art project is the collaboration that took place while completing this task. Because of our colaboration we have created an amazing art piece of the leader great leader Malala Yousafai.

What were we thinking?

For Inquiry Mrs Anderson asked us what we think people were thinking during the signing of the treaty using speech and thought bubbles and also conversations we think people. Then we got into groups and then my group used speech and thought bubbles to show what we thought that the people who were in the photo what we all thought they were thinking in the moment. Then we created a conversation we think that Hone Heke and Tamati Waka Nene had and using the Maori dictionary we translated it into Maori and then under it in English to show how the Maori people communicated in just Maori. Something I liked was thinking about what people were thinking at that time like the Maori people, Missionarys and the British people.

A Moment in Time

Today LS2 was asked to create a DLO about a Moment in time and then make a voice over on it on a Google vid. The topic I chose was Henry VII’s reign and I created this. The reason why I chose Henry VII is because it was a topic I am currenly interested in and have been wanting to learn about in the past couple weeks.
Something I found interesting was learning more about history with this task.

Procedural text|Paper dinosaurs

For inquiry we created Paper dinosaurs as a task from our dinosaur dig. We got into our pairs and were given a piece of red paper to create our prototype. When we finished our prototype we were given a black piece of paper and created our real model. As we did we made a procedural that showed how to make the dinosaur.
Something I liked about this task was how we could experiment with the prototype to make the actual model better.

Dinosaur Reasearch| The Triceratops

Triceratops
For inquiry, We got into groups of 2-4 and created a DLO about the dinosaur we got from another activity which was where we got our mini dinosaurs from. My group got a triceratops and created this DLO on Canva, it includes the Diet, Habitat, Predators and Protection.

AI Movie

For Inquiry LS2 was given a task to create a Video of the dinosaurs we found and reasearched about in our dinosaur dig challenge.
Qe were given 2 create challenges to help us show our learning in creative and fun ways.
Create Challenge 1:
Use ADOBE Express to generate an image about each dinosaur on your completed sheet. You can not use their name – only the facts you have gathered.
Create Challenge 2:
Use https://hailuoai.video to create AI films showing 3 of your dinosaurs in their natural habitat.
I enjoyed these challenges because it was fun giving the AI prompts and then if you got something you didn’t want you could just change up the prompt to get which made the AI cool to use.

This is my video I made using Adobe express and Hailuo. My dinosaur is the Triceratops.

Museum

In week 4, Thursday classes Room 7,  LS1 and LS2 went to the museum and my class to finish off our topic of  Volcanoes and Dinosaurs! but first we got to school and then got into our groups and since we couldn’t take alot of bags we had to share 1-2 bags between a group and so then we could put our lunch in it and also so we could go without taking much bags and then we also had parent helpers and for my class we had 5 parent helpers one of them being my older brother and then we went to the bus and headed to the Museum. When we got to the Museum and sat down in our groups and classes and ate our morning tea then spilt up in our classes and then my class went to the WW2 enclosure and we found out about a big gun than my Teacher knew a lot about and then we went to weird and wonderful and saw a lot of cool and weird things that I found interesting and I liked seeing the facts I found out there. then we headed over to this place that had cool artifacts and it was really cool then we had lunch in the Kai room after we finished we cleaned up our messes and my group went to this cass that taught everyone about volcanoes and the 4 types of rock but my favourite part was when they split us into groups of 3 and then all three groups went to 1 table that had a lot of things and they handed us a bag and we were given 30 seconds to grab the important stuff we needed to evacuate because the scenario was that we lived near a volcano and the news said we had to evacuate if near it so my group didn’t really interperate that well and grabbed everything instead of only getting everything and then we went back to the mat which is where we were sitting and  our bag got checked and only one group actually did it properly and got important stuff but they forgot one thing which was the mask. then our group went to where the dinosaurs and other animals were and something I learnt there was that one of the biggest ammonites were found off the west coast of the north island and that scientists mistakened bones they found in the sand in a beach for a dinosaurs but it was actually the bones of the kea bird. then after that we went to this room and sat down and told the people around us facts we learned and then LS1 came in and then we moved our places to give them space to sit and then 1 by one LS2 stood up and introduced themselves and told LS1 a fact and when it was my turn I was nervous at first but then I fet confidence when I stood up and said it even tho my legs were still kinda Shakey but I still did it and that’s what matters! then when the last person went we all waited abit and then we all got up and went class by class out the museum and then we got in our bus and head back to school.

When we got back I got really sad that it was over but it was an AMAZING experience and I wish I could go again!
