My first Flight

Mrs Anderson read us the book ‘First Flight’ by June Crebbin. We talked about the narrators point of view and used a Gemini Gem to prompt us to think more deeply about what the story might look like when told in the first person. Me and my partner created this story and wrote it in first person as if we were Blink who was the main character in the book. Something I liked about this task was being able to learn more stronger words that we could use while writing.

As the sun took its place, allowing the moon to rise, a wisp of gentle breeze through the forest made me shiver as I started to prepare myself for my first flight ever, mentally and physically.

My talons gripped the branch tightly and I was about to take one talon off until a gust of wind almost blew me over and I quickly held back onto the branch and my fear got a hold of my confidence.
The quite small branch shook slightly with the wind but I tried not to get that hold of me and built up my courage and thought that I was finally ready to soar in the sky with the rest of the parliament calling my name.

But as my eyes filled with curiosity I took a peep over the long branch only to see how elevated I was.
My wings tingled just by looking at the distance from the branch. I was terrified and I could only think of the worst, I couldn’t bear the thought of everything going wrong and falling into the dark and cold abyss.
My Mother, who sensed my overwhelming fear, sauntered next to me and as just I lost all hope of flying Mother reassured me and she took me under her wing.

“Don’t fret little one, we have all been there before and you need to remember that I am here with you.” Mother comforted me.
“But what if everything goes wrong and I mess up my first flight? I would be known as the owl who messed up his first flight!” I exclaimed in fear.

“It’s fine, you can only be scared of something if you make it scary. So you should learn that you should take chances. I believe in you.” Mother reassured me with her gentle and kind words.
I then started to gain more hope in myself and as Mother stepped back to give me space to finally fly.
My confidence and courage began to skyrocket. The only thing I could think of was to just take that risk, only then would it all be over and done with, I prepared myself once more, ready to take action. My wings were spread wide ready to glide with my talons set loose, I stood tall prepared for the wind to blow me over.

I wasn’t scared this time. I took my first leap of faith by relaxing my talons causing them to set loose letting me fall. I was flying! Mother and I were hovering across the quiet and sleeping city, from then I have never been so happy. — “Don’t let overthinking kill your happiness because you can only be scared of something if you make it scary.”

Life in the Annex

LI: To write a description of life with the Frank family in the annex in 1942

The Annex was quiet except for the sound of creaking from the old wooden floorboards whenever we walked, the loud chimes of the clock could be heard from inside. It was very cramped and whenever we ate because we always hit someone’s elbow or bump someone’s plate because it was such a small space to live in for 8 people and up to 2-3 of us had to share one small room. We had to stay silent to stay hidden from the German people who raided and persecuted many other Jewish people like us.

The silence was slowly clawing at all of us, you could even hear the sounds of heavy breaths and thumping hearts because of how quiet it was. We had to keep this Annex a secret to stay safe so they only used the basic necessities. Food was rationed and most of the time it was gross but it was the only thing keeping us from starving to death so it was that or nothing.

Everyday we had to live in fear because we didn’t know when it would be our last day together so we had to cherish every moment we had with our family and being alive. One fateful day we heard the boots stomping up the stairs. We heard glass shattering and the shards scattering all over the floor and we thought it was the Germans but on a very slim chance we didn’t get caught but it was still terrifying to think about.

We are reading the book ‘Diary of Anne Frank’. Mrs Anderson created a Gemini Gem to prompt us to think more deeply about what life would have been like in the annex, what we felt and why we felt that way.I enjoyed using the Gem because it helped me notice things that I wouldn’t and fix things that I thought were fine but when Gemini pointed it out it made me realize that I could change it to make it more better.

How we Honour The TOW

For Inquiry Mrs Anderson asked the LS2 a question which was “What do you do to honour the Treaty?” and then we got into pairs and then together me and Fern worked together to think about something we did to honour the Treaty of Waitangi and we both thought the same thing which was Kapa Haka and then created this DLO together to show others how participating in Kapa Haka honours the Treaty of Waitangi. Something I found interesting about this task was how all of us found out that each of us do at least one thing to contribute and honour the Treaty of Waitangi.

Dame Naida Glavish

In LS2 we learned about the great leader, Dame Naida Glavish. First we got into groups and then Mrs Anderson read out each paragraph of her story and after each one we would rewrite it in exactly 10 words and then created a DLO with the summarized paragraphs. Something I liked about this task was collaborating with eachother to think on what words to use for each summary.

Why Maungarei sleeps(a Pourquoi story)

Today in LS2 we learnt about pourquoi storys and what the purpose a Pourquoi story serves. We were given the topic of “Why Maungarei sleeps” and create a Pourquoi story explaining why by using a type of story that is also known as myths or legends which is what a Pourquoi story is. We filled out framework to help us write our Pourquoi storys and then put it all together to get the finished product. This is my story below.

Many generations ago when dinosaurs left footprints on the earth, there lived joyful and gorgeous mountain warriors who kept the land safe from bad spirits like Whiro-te-tipua the god of evil, darkness and death. Until this one maunga, named Maungarei, known amongst the other maunga as Maungarei the mighty mountain warrior, let her own anger and rage take over her emotions. She let out an almighty roar every time she fought with the other maunga. This made them not only fear her but also want to stay away from her.

It was another day, after Maungarei finished her little angry fit she realised that she had become lonely.

“Guys? Where are you all going?”she asked, confused.

“You’re really scary Maungarei so we don’t want to be with you anymore.”admitted the bravest of the other maunga.

“Wait! Don’t leave me alone! I don’t like being by myself. I thought we were friends, I promise I won’t be mean anymore!”she exclaimed, afraid that they were leaving her.

“Sorry Maungarei, we just don’t like you anymore. Haere ra!” a maunga waved her on as they all began to leave. Each one ignoring her pleas and never looking back.

Maungarei watched all the other maunga of Tāmaki Makaurau drift into the distance. She was overcome with guilt and despair. Maungarei looked around hoping this was all a joke and they would come back to her, since her biggest fear was being by herself. A sense of hopelessness washed over her. She knew there was nothing she could do that could stop the distance getting wider. Defeated, she finally laid down and her volatile volcanic core soon subsided forcing her into the long rest we see her taking today.

I created this photo using the generative AI feature on Adobe express. I experimented with many prompts and chose this one because I think it suits my story the best and I also like it the most out of all of the other recommendations. I think this is a very cool feature to use on Adobe since it is very helpful for people who need some help with creating images or even templates!

Words from the ANZACS

On friday Mrs Andersons group was taught how to use Google vids and after learning how to create and use it we were asked to create a podcast/vid of our ANZAC diary entries and recorded ourselfs reading it out as if we were the soldier. We also got to search for an image that relates to the ANZAC war for our background and also used text templates to write our title in.We then uploaded it to drive which makes the vd into one whole video that could be put onto our blogs.

I found this task really creative to do because we could learn about how to use Google vids and also learn about the ANZAC war and how hard it was for the soldiers to survive.

LI:To retell an event in history through the fictional eyes of someone who was there.

Tamaki Awa Hikoi

Yesterday PBS went on a walk to the Point England Reserve to learn about what Samuel Marsden saw in 1820.Our task was to create a photo collage of our walk in sequential order .We first crossed the road to Dunkirk and walked along the path. We the walked by the Marist Rugby Club and the whole walk we could see the clear water and the question that went through my mind was “what did Samuel Marsden see?” and I imagined what might and might not have been there. We then arrived to Point England Reserve and had morning tea and played on the park and took lots of photos. After around like 30 minutes we all lined up and left and then walked along the path to school. something I really like was the fact that the entire school had fun on this walk and I would definitely do this again.

LI: To understand the concept of visual storytelling.

Ariel and Belle Meet-Papyrus Ai

Ariel and Belle

Ariel was swimming in the calm water and saw a beaming shiney light from above and swam to the surface and was amazed and curious to see a ship a big one that was brown and had some flags and decoration o it it looked as big as a cruise ship!the ship had a handsome prince and a princess that was wearing a lovely yellow poofy dress but in the back of the ship she saw a beast that looked Hideous and the princesses name was Belle and she was talking to the other prince and Ariel wanted to meet them so she met a evil sorceress that said she would give her legs for exchange for her voice and even tho her fish friends gave her warnings she was uncertain and nervous but agreed and then she got her voice taken away and got legs and she was amazed but it was tricky getting used to the legs and not having a voice but then she quickly swam to the surface and luckily the ship was still there so she went to it and met the prince and Belle but the beast was mad and angry and Ariel and Belle became friends after finding out how much in common they had and Ariel met the prince and fell in love then Ariel and Belle decided to explore the ship’s lower decks. There, they found a mysterious old book. The cover was dusty, and it had golden letters that seemed to glow in the dim light. They wondered if it might hold a clue to breaking the Beast’s curseAriel and Belle carefully opened the old book. Its pages were filled with elegant handwriting and glowing illustrations of enchanted creatures. They found a page titled “The Breaking of Curses” with a drawing of a rose entwined with golden light. It spoke of an act of bravery and true friendship needed to lift the darkness. Ariel and Belle exchanged hopeful glances, knowing they could work together. They decided they would need to talk to the Beast and find out more about his story. Maybe, just maybe, they could find a way to break the curse and bring peace to the ship.Ariel and Belle felt a mix of excitement and nervousness as they approached the Beast. In her gentle voice, Belle said, “We found a book that might help you break the curse.” Ariel nodded eagerly beside her, hoping her friend would understand.
The Beast paused, a look of surprise crossing his face. “Why would you want to help me?” he asked, his voice a mix of curiosity and doubt.
Belle smiled warmly. “Because everyone deserves a chance at happiness, and we believe in the power of friendship.”
Ariel took a deep breath and showed him the page from the mysterious book. The Beast studied the glowing illustration and the words about bravery and friendship. For the first time, he felt a glimmer of hope.
“Alright,” he said thoughtfully. “What do we need to do?”Ariel, Belle, and the Beast gathered around the table in the ship’s library. The book mentioned something about needing a special flower called the “Golden Rose,” which grew only in a mysterious garden deep within the ship’s enchanted forest. To lift the curse, the flower’s petals must be touched by true friends.
The Beast, still uncertain but willing to try, said, “I’ve heard of that garden, but the path is hidden and full of challenges.”
“Then we’ll face it together,” Belle replied with determination. Ariel nodded, her eyes sparkling with confidence. As they set off to find the hidden path, their newfound friendship gave them the courage to face whatever awaited them.Ariel, Belle, and the Beast stepped into the forest, where shimmering lights danced around them and soft melodies whispered through the trees. The air was filled with the scent of enchanting blossoms, casting a spell of wonder over the trio.
As they ventured deeper, they encountered a wise old tree rooted in the center of a sparkling clearing. Its branches rustled softly, and its trunk bore ancient carvings that seemed to tell stories of the past. The tree’s eyes opened, gleaming like emeralds, and spoke in a voice as deep and timeless as the earth itself. “To seek the Golden Rose,” it intoned, “answer this: What can be seen once in a minute, twice in a moment, and never in a thousand years?”
The friends gathered closely, pondering the riddle with thoughtful expressions. Belle’s eyes brightened as she whispered, “It’s the letter ‘M’! Once in a minute, twice in a moment, and never in a thousand years.”
The tree smiled, its branches parting to reveal a hidden path illuminated by glowing vines. “Go forth, true friends. Let your hearts guide you,” it said warmly.
With renewed determination and trust in one another, Ariel, Belle, and the Beast followed the secret path, ready to face whatever awaited them.As they walked deeper along the glowing, secret path, the air buzzed with anticipation and magic. At last, the forest opened up to reveal a magnificent garden unlike any they had ever seen. A kaleidoscope of flowers bloomed, their petals shimmering in every shade, while a gentle waterfall played a soothing melody.
In the heart of the garden stood the Golden Rose. Its petals glowed with a golden light that seemed to fill the entire clearing with warmth and peace.
The trio approached the rose cautiously, and as they did, an ethereal voice echoed through the garden, “To touch the Golden Rose, you must show the strength of your friendship. Stand united as one.”
Ariel, Belle, and the Beast joined hands, their hearts full of trust and courage. Together, they gently touched the petals of the Golden Rose. A brilliant light enveloped them, transforming the garden around them with its pure radiance.
The Beast began to change, his appearance softening as kindness and love radiated from his heart. No longer a beast, but restored to his true form—a prince with a noble spirit. His friends watched in awe, knowing their bond had lifted the curse.
In a joyful celebration, Ariel, Belle, and the newly transformed prince rejoiced, surrounded by the magical garden. They realised the true power of friendship and bravery, and the magic it holds to light even the darkest of places.

Descriptive Setting Writing

Today in class we had to make a slideshow about Descriptive settings.First we chose two images then we added a discription on the image using the four senses. Then I had to copy it into craiyon an AI image generator and used a image that looked the same as the image I chose. And I did the same for the other image I chose.
